Tis That Season!!!

Well it's that time of the year...and no not Christmas, although it's that time as well but, it's time for FINALS!!! We are in the last week of classes and it's crunch time and I've reached that lull where I have no motiviation to get anything done. I just want to be on vacation, that four day siesta for Thanksgiving was not satitisfactory, I need the real deal, a month off for some needed RandR.

I finished and passed in a 15 page paper that was due yesterday, I still have to finish a take home final for my Intro to counseling skills class and start a debate and do some extra credit for my History of Latin America and U.S relations class. Tonight I have a Stress Free/Sleeping Right Program for my residents and I still have buy a couple of things for that program. There is so much goinng that needs to get done before the break and oh YEAH! I'm working on getting my first Grad School Application mailed out by next week. So much to do but not enough hours in the day to get it all done.

So, IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME, by far my favorite holiday and it's not because of the presents although that is nice as well. I have my dorm room decorated in colored lights as well as I bought one of those dorky little trees that sing (just for kicks). The tree lighting ceremony is on Thursday and there is a holiday concert tomorrow and then the Winter Ball on Friday. So much happening on campus as well as in the city and I love Boston at this time because it's all decorated. I can't wait for X-MAS.

So this is going to be my last journal entry for 2008 the next time I blog won't be into Jan. 2009. So Happy Holidays and have a Happy New Year!!!!!!!

THANKSGIVING BREAK!!!

So last week a rocked!!!

So on Monday I had a debate in my Senior Seminar class for psychology. It was pretty intense because I tend to psych myself out and so I tend to over prepare which can be good. The topic was on whether or not research shows that homosexual parenting does not have a negative effect on children. I was the mediator which you would think is an easy part, because all you have to do is sit there but it's not that easy. You have to be knowledgeable of both sides and also I had to bring in my own article and come up with questions to ask to kick off the debate. So it was a lot of work to do but we rocked! we took the class by storm and I feel as though it was a job well done.

For another class I also had six papers (no lie) due for the same class. Granted it was expected because my professor told us that in the beginning that these papers would be due on this day. So that is why I started a couple of weeks early. So I wasn't overwhelmed because I went to my favorite corner of the library and pumped these papers.

I still have 15 page paper to write due next Monday as well as another debate to prepare for next Friday. So as my family is gathered around the table saying their thanks I will be in the corner with my turkey drum stick typing out a paper...JK...Forget that it's a four day break and I will spending my Thanksgiving with family filling myself up with turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mash patatas. CANT WAIT!!! but the day after I will then write my 15 page paper while having Thanksgiving leftovers.

So THANKSGIVING!!! I'm not really a pro-Thanksgiving person but I am just happy to be going home for a couple of days and relaxing, granted I still have a paper to write. What makes me even more pumped is that when we come back we only have one week left of classes before X-MAS Break!!!!

Well this is it for now...HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Open House

1100 people showed up at Suffolk's doors for Open House on Saturday, and what time did I have to be there, AT 8am. I was so comfortable in my bed and I did not want to get up at all, but I did. Overall, it was a good turn out and most of the students and parents on my tour had plenty of questions to ask. The only downside was the weather, it wasn't really raining that much but it was humid. I am getting a little nervous because the cause of this stranger weather is global warning. Under any normal circumstance should it be that warm out in mid fall. I know I should appreciate every moment of sunshine and good weather but it's only the calm before the storm. If it's that warm out then I am predicting a terrible winter this year. Just thinking about winter gives me chills.

Well This is the last full week before Thanksgiving as well as two weeks before X-MAS break!!!! I am so excited I have said it before and I will say it again, I can't wait to get on break. So before Monday I was able to complete 3 papers before the deadline on Friday and my presentation was on Monday and so I took Monday night off from doing work. Granted I will have two 8-10 page research papers, debate, and another topic paper still left to do, but I am still ahead of the game. Today, will be back to the grind stone and pumping out these papers.

"We're Half Way There....oooohhhh OH!"

Well actually it's more than half way over. This semester is almost over in 4 WEEKSSS!!!! THANK YOU TO THE POWERS TO BE!!!! I am so ready for this semester to be over, I've just been so over worked with papers, RA stuff, SU101 stuff, and Grad School stuff.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend this conference called NASPA which is a major conference for Student Affair professionals. This conference also had a sub conference called SALT, which was intended for undergrad students interested in Student Affairs. There was about 50 undergrads and the conference was from Sunday to Monday, and after leaving the conference I walked away with 4 grad schools in which I want to apply to. This conference was basically a foot in the door to exploring and networking with professionals as well as exploring a couple of grad schools. I originally wanted to apply to Northeastern and Suffolk but after meeting the representatives of other schools I've decided to apply to Northeastern, Springfield College, UCONN, and Suffolk.

With Thanksgiving around the corner I will be spending my free time off from school applying to Grad programs. I am having a friend of mine proof-reading my personal statement, I am currently in the works of getting my recommendations ready, and hopefully if I do everything right and according to plan I will be able to have everything sent out before X-Mas Break(fingers crossed.

Lastly, Open House on Saturday, should be exciting!!!!

IT's TIME FOR CHANGE

So change has happened, last night Senator Barack Obama was introduced as our Commander and Chief. When he spoke last night he gave such a powerful speech. It was unlike any other speech in past election victories. There was no balloons or confetti falling from the air it was just him and his words. He understands that nothing is going to be easy and change does not happen over night but it will happen. Some how his speech was very comforting and I look forward to January 2009.

In other news I am in that moment of counting down the weeks, days, hours and minutes to when it will be X-MAS break. I could really use a month of to sleep or just to stay in my room without having to always go somewhere. I had a presentation today which went very well although I felt at certain moments I was going to vomit. Now I look at this in the broad perspective I have a group presentation to work on, 15 page research paper, 8 page research paper for social problems, 3 8 page papers for my Intro to Counseling class and all due in a matter of 3 weeks, and of course a test next week as well as my other readings I have to get done. What keeps me going and able to do this is the Library as well as at the end of next semester I will be getting my DEGREE!!!!

Well That's all for now. Until Next time-Peace Out kids!

Where did October GO!!!!

I can't believe it's already October, where has the time gone??? I feel so so that this semester is almost a month from being over. One reason is because CHRISTMAS by far is my favorite holiday as well I could use a month off for some much needed R&R. What stresses me out with this semester is that I have so much to do, and everything is due before Thanksgiving Break. I have papers to write, presentations to prepare for, Residents to deal with, journals to grade for my SU101 students, and of course GRAD SCHOOL!!!! Time management has been necessary skill for me and I continue to still have struggles but it's getting better.

This Friday is my Trick or Treat event with kids from the YMCA at 10 West, which is my residence hall that I live in. There will be DIESEL activities such as bobbing for apples, donut on a string contest, story book time, and of course TRICK OR TREATING IN THE HALLS. There is still much to do but I hope that it all goes WELL!!!

My plans for the weekend are: Admissions event on Saturday, there is a celebration at the C.Walsh Theatre to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos which should be fun. Other than that probably library on the weekends to get some work done and of course ELECTIONS ON TUESDAY!!!! DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!

GRAD SCHOOL.... YIKES!!!

So I went to Bridgewater State College to go take the MAT's which is the Millner's Analogy Test for Grad School. I don't know why I decided to travel out to Bridgewater to take this test, when in fact, there were test centers in Boston. I guess I just wanted to check out the fall foliage which was nice. So the MAT was not that bad it was nothing compared to the GRE's which the GRE is the SAT for grad school. Most of the schools that I am applying to don't solely require the GRE and so, hence, why I took the MAT.

I can't believe that I am thinking about preparations to Grad school, I won't lie this semester has been very overwhelming for me just because of all the work I need to get done but I'm getting it done which is great. I just can't wait until it's X-MAS break I need some R and R.

So enough of that, 10 West Residence Hall just had Moktober fest on Monday which was awesome. The majority of my floor showed up which was great and as well as people from the Residence Halls. The purpose of Moktober fest is of course for Alcohol Awareness and so we had someone from Health Services come in and do some Rootbeer ping pong with trivia. Someone from SUPD came in to talk about the effects of alcohol which included using beer goggle which were GREAT. Overall this was an amazing and educational program. Next week I am getting together my building wide program for Trick or Treating with Kids from the YMCA. So I've been trying to rustle up residents to handout candy as well as plan some fun activities, I think overall it will be an awesome program.

Jason Mraz!!!

So Last Thursday was the Jason Mraz Concert which was AWESOME!!! I got to go for free because I helped out with the concert. I had to be at the Roxy at 8am to help load of the equipment out of truck which was an experience. Some of equipment I spent trying to guess how much it was worth incase I dropped it and had to pay for it. Then it came to me that some of this equipment is worth more than my tuition for all four years. The concert was amazing I got to stand in the VIP section which was the balcony of the Roxy. Here's a quick link to a youtube video of the Remedy performed by the one...the only...Jason Mraz at the ROXY!!!!

I had such a great time but of course it came to an end and that mean time to help the crew back up everything and move it back onto the truck. It took us close to 2 and a half hours to back everything up,we were done by 12.30am. The following morning I was in so much pain. It took 5 or 6 people to wheel up the many cases of heavy equipment and it ended up being a workout.

Other than that today is Thursday and the week is basically over. Except my time on Saturday and Sunday will be spent in the Library because I have mucho mucho tarea!!! AKA paper writing. My MAT test is next Tuesday and have I opened up the study book NO, I just haven't the time.

On a happier note I GOT A NEW APPLE LAP TOP!!!! Well not one of the new ones that came up this past Tuesday but Whatever it's a new lap top and I love it. My old (Rest In Peace) was making me very upset. The hard drive as I was told had many errors on it which translates back to me as Oh...it doesn't have long to live. Getting used to an apple hasn't been so bad but there are many things I don't get, but I'm happy with my choice and the lap top is GREAT!!!

WHAT...Grad school Already.....????

So I visited Northeastern on Saturday to take a look at the graduate program for Student Affair/Higher Ed. The program that I am looking into is the Student Development and Counseling program. Although I came into my undergrad at Suffolk as a psychology major, I decided, a couple of months ago that I wanted to go into the world of Student Affairs. Having experience in various fields such as Student Activities, Reslife, and Admissions it was clear to me that I wasn't involved for just the fun of it but it helped me realize, career wise that I could be successful in Higher Ed.

Northeastern was a little overwhelming because is a big school compared to Suffolk. I remember when I was looking for schools back in high school. I wanted to go to a big school like Northeastern but now that I've been at Suffolk I realize how happy I was to be at Suffolk. The perks with going to a small school is that you don't get lost in the crowd. Now for my masters I would love to go to Northeastern because I want to experience I different environment then what I had at Suffolk. Suffolk also has a high ed. program which I plan on applying for but people tell me that you shouldn't go to the same school where you got your undergrad degree. Although, what it will really come down to, is that I will go to the school where I want to go to and that's what really matters.

Having to get ready for this just brings me back to senior of high school. Scrambling to get references, visiting schools, taking entry level exams, and still get work done for your current classes. It's been a busy road so far and hopefully it will all pay out in the end.

Mission complete and a Success

So my anticipated Cookie Bake off was last night, and it was a success. I had four apartments participating in the the bake off, a couple of people act as judges and the rest of the floor just enjoyed some really good cookies. There was this 7 layer cookie which I have to say was my favorite, a shortbread cookie with chocolate and caramel stripes all over it as well as puppy chow, sugar cookies, and the good old fashion chocolate chip cookie was representing. It was a pretty good turn out in total it was about 15-20 people and the best part was they were socializing with each other. Some people realized that their fellow classmates were also on the same floor as them. So in all my mission was a success!!!

Tonight I have no staff meeting for RA and so I will be hitting up the library because yo soy mucho mucho trabajo. I keep on going over in my head of how many more months or weeks we have until x-mas break. It's only been a couple of weeks but I could use a vacation. My favorite class this semester, hands down, is Intro to Counseling Skills. Every week this class meets it's like a counseling session and I love it. We get to pretty much unload the stress and anxiety of the past week or couple of weeks. Then we learn techniques on we could be better helpers and use those skills in our practice group sessions. It's a very interesting class and it's a lot of work but it's worth it. Then my Latin History and U.S relations class meets once a week as well and no lie it's a lot of reading and sometimes I end up not doing some of it. The class itself is interesting it's just the reading adds on to the other reading that I have to get done. Overall despite the increasing work load and always being busy this semester hasn't been so bad and besides it's my Senior Year!!

An Ode to My Lap Top

So I got my lap top back from computer services to find out that the hard drive is messed up and since I've gotten it back it runs really slow. It's only in a matter of time that my lap top finally peaces out of this world for good. So this weekend I think I am in the market for a new lap top and so PC or Mac...such a tough decision. I get thrown into one direction by my friends saying "Buy a Mac, there awesome and so dependable" then others say "My HP lap top works fine, I love it". I'm really indecisive when it comes to making important and crucial decisions like this. All I know is, it's time for a new lap top and so GOODBYE DELL LAPTOP and WUTSUP MAC OR HP or whatever.

I just received a phone call from Bridgewater State College letting me know that I am all set to take the MAT (Miller Analogies Test) in October. This makes me a little nervous because I thought I was done with taking entrance exams into school. I just get flashbacks to the SAT's and that was not a pretty sight. I'm taking this test because I want to go to grad school and even if I don't go next fall at least I have it under my belt. I heard taking the MAT's were easier then taking the GRE's and the programs I am looking at except both so hence why I'm taking the MAT's. I bought the book for this test and soon I will be cracking it open to begin studying. So wish me LUCK!

In other news tonight is another one of my floor programs. It is the premiere of the OFFICE. I can't wait for it. I became hooked on the office this summer, I bought the 2nd and 3rd season and after I was done with that I watched the 4th season online so that I could catch up and be in the loop for this whole new season. I watched the premiere of Heroes, it was awesome and such a cliff hanger at the end. I can't wait for next week!!!

My next program is next Monday, it's the ever anticipated Cookie Bake Off between the apartments. I have six apartments in the competition which is great!!! The suites are going to be the judges so it should be fun, I mean free cookies, what gets better than free cookies and prizes. Sounds like a fun time. It should be FUN!!!

Lata Summer, Wutsup FALL!!!

Well, I officially put a way the sandles and the shorts and took out my Northface fleece. Summer is gone but this is the best time of the year. The reason being is October is Hispanic Heritage Month, Halloween, November is Thanksgiving, and December is CHRISTMAS!!! That means there is going to be something going on all the time. Halloween usually calls for a trip to Salem. November it's the time of giving back to the community if it means going to a soup kitchen or starting a food drive, December is the ever incipated Winter Ball, which I remember my first one was at the Park Plaza Hotel. This is my favorite as well as the best part of the YEAR!!!

Sometimes when I am pulling a seven hour day at the library I think to myself "God, I wish it was x-mas break already." I have so much work to get done and I feel like there isn't enough hours of the day to get it all done. As I was typing a paper my computer decided to shut down and this blue screen popped saying that windows had to shut to prevent damage or something like that. I am not at all computer savy but I'm pretty sure that could mean my computer has went off to a far away place which means I might have to buy a new one. Not that I can necessarily afford it. So I dropped my lap top off at Computer services and now I'm just hoping for the best.

So at the Residence Hall we are doing a building wide event for the Nov. 4th elections. That slogan Vote or Die is the theme of the program and it started today and will be going until Sept. 30th. Basically we have set up a table in the lobby in which residents who haven't registered yet can register with us. It's going to be great I made huge signs as well as mass email to my residents to register if they haven't already because depending on who wins the elections this country is in for some change and they should be part of that change by voting. I myself I have now gotten in the habit of doing a little research of the canidates. I've started a little late but it's better late than never.

Temple Street Fair

Temple street fair is pretty much the kick off to what what goes on for the rest of the semester. All the clubs, organizations, and offices were out today trying to get people to sign up as well as give a preview to the events going on. Temple street fair is pretty awesome because there is always free food, free give aways and tons of other activities. Today they were giving away free smoothies and there was also people doing graffiti art on pillowcases and backpacks. Organizations were getting revved up for their events and giving away t-shirts and other cool stuff.

So it's the third week of classes and I feel like it's going so slow. I have a feeling that sooner or later it's going to start picking up and before I know it will X-MAS break. I've been getting a lot of reading but I have really enjoyed my classes. I'm taking this Intro to Counseling course which is just amazing. It really makes you think and go in depth into who you are (pretty deep, Huh) In the couple of times that I had this course I've learned a lot about myself as well as how to be a good helper.

I took my residents to Fire and Ice for a floor trip, not a lot of people went but it was cool. The wait was 45minutes and so if anyone else joined it would have been over an hour. Waiting 45minutes was worth it because it was only 10 dollars and all you can eat.

And it's Fall.....

The weather is starting to get colder and sooner or later the leafs will start turning and then we'll be in winter before we know it. I'm actually ecstatic about the fall weather because that means "time to break out my sweat pants and my Northface hoodie!"

Tomorrow is the Red Sox game and I am pumped because I only paid 10 dollars for my ticket. I love being a College Student. So I've already spent close to 15 hours in the library and I don't mind it because I love the library, it really is the most gorgeous building on campus. The residence hall is going very well, 10 West is truly the most beautiful residence hall on campus. My residents are learning to adjust and some of my residents have taken the initiative to get involved which is AWESOME!!! They have tried out for the Ramifications which is the best a Capella group as well as the Fall Fest Variety show.

Well for now that's all I have to say but stay tuned for more blogging to come!!!

It's a Start and End of a New Year

So I have finally reached my Senior year at Suffolk. The start off of this semester was I welcomed 60 of my residents at the West Street Residence Hall. I have a complete work load of courses and I am getting into the swing of things with my involvements on campus. I have bought my ticket for JASON MRAZ which I am pumped to go see in October. I also bought my ticket for Blueman Group which for both tickets I only paid 10 dollars each. Most importantly I bought my 10 dollar ticket to the RED SOX this FRiday!

For my first floor trip I am taking my residents to the Program Council Comedy nightl On Monday I am taking them to College Night Monday's at Fire and Ice. I am definitely going to miss all the discounts that you get as a college student, I have definitely saved a couple of buck here and there just because of being a college student.

I can't believe that I am going to graduating this year. Now that I think of it, my time here at Suffolk flew by. In these past three years I have done alot, I've studied abroad at the Suffolk Madrid Campus, spent my Thanksgiving in London, attended a seminar in Washington DC which I recieved college credit for, became and RA at the very awesome New 10 West street Residence Hall.

Currently I am focusing on my courses, trying to help my students in my SU101 as well as my own residents adjusted to their first semester at college. Also start studying for the GRE's or the MAT's for grad school. Also next week will start tours so I am even more pumped to get perspective students excited for visting Suffolk!!!

This is not Summer Weather

Second day of dark skies and muggy weather...NOT KOOL with a capital K. Tomorrow and for the weekend it's supposed to be beautiful and sunny, and it better be because I am looking foward to going to the pool or simply relaxing with a book out on the Boston Common.

Today is the first day for Orientation. I woke up from my slumber this morning to find a group of orientation students just staring at me. Of course I was in my PJ's and I looked like I just woke up, which I did. It was what most people would refer to an awkward moment. With all this excitement about Orientation it made me reminisce about my past experience. I had a pretty good orientation and that's because I had two top notch Orientation Leaders. Thinking about this next freshmen class makes me remember when I had to sit through all those orientation sessions about classes, residence life, student involvment, etc etc. It was pretty overwhelming and long but I also remember meeting people who've turned out to be some of my closest friends today. I had my first experience of how dedicated students here are to getting involved. The first organization that I joined was Suffolk University Hispanic Association and I was pretty much inlisted right at orientation. So over all there were some boring aspects but there were also some perks being at orientation.

SUMMER TIME IN BOSTON!!!

So I am really pumped this summer!! I am back at Admissions giving tours for the summer as well as living at the dorms this summer to. I am back living at the 150 Tremont Residence Hall as a Third year Conference Assistant which is definitely exciting. The whole month of May we have been prepping the residence halls for the arriving guests this summer. It's going to be fun! We get to meet a wide range of people such as Orientation students, international students as well as various of other groups of people. On top of that I've been working at the Admissions office giving tours and I am working part time at the Kinsale Irish Pub and restaurant and taking a class. So as it is a very busy summer it's also going to be exciting because there is always something going on in Boston.

LAST WEEK OF CLASSES

So this week is a very awesome week because it's the last week of classes...YEA!!!! Also last night I got to go to the RED SOX game which of course they one. My seats were off in the bleachers which I have to say were not that bad at all. This has also been a busy week for me I've had a couple of papers to write as well as Info Sessions at Undergrad Admissions for perspective students. Tomorrow is the Spring ball which is being held at the very nice Copley Fairmont Hotel. Unfortunately, I also have a very busy day because I have class in the morning followed by work and then a night class and so I am going to have to bring my clothes to wear to the ball with me. Right now I am looking forward to getting done with exams and start my summer off at a beach or somewhere nice that involves me being in the sun.
